The book examines social movements that Dr . Mar’i spearheaded as an individual , citizen , researcher and educator . One of his most prolific research projects was an empirical analysis of the Arab educational system in three languages : Arabic , Hebrew and English . These studies highlighted the large gaps between Arab and Jewish educational systems in terms of facilities , resources and content . They also brought attention to attempts by Israeli authorities to oversee Arab education as a tool of control over the Palestinian minority in Israel . In the words of Dr . Mar’i : “ Educational and cultural policy in Israel is an ideological tool adopted by Zionist institutions in order to erase the cultural and national identity of the Palestinian minority , and thus , turn us into a society divided according to ethnicity and social status . ” Dr . Mar’i continually emphasized the importance of establishing an Arab-Palestinian university . He believed that such an institution would be instrumental in Arab-Palestinian’s ability to create an identity and narrative and to promote their own research and cultural agenda . He said : “ Arabs [ in Israel ] are a unique national and cultural entity , with the right , as well as the obligation , to establish a university that will speak their language , examine and reflect their reality and will promote their development in an authentic and creative setting respectful of their uniqueness . ” His book , entitled Arab Education in Israel , was published in English in the United States . Here , he encapsulated the essence of his research and educational beliefs , both about the situation in Israel while also relating to realities of minorities in other parts of the world . To this day , it continues to be compulsory reading for any researcher interested in Arab society and education in Israel . My book about Dr . Mar’i is divided into four chapters as follows :
