Chapter one is based on in-depth interviews with family members , close associates and colleagues from the University of Haifa . An analysis of this material sheds light on Dr . Mar’i as a man , researcher , educational leader and a visionary . I employ conflict theory while introducing three different voices : Dr . Mar’i’s identity , his educational legacy as expressed through his academic career and , finally , his social and educational theories and ideologies . I also examine primary trends which shaped such theories and the way they have subsequently influenced Arab society and education in Israel . The second chapter explores issues of interest to Dr . Mar’i as reflected in his writings . For example , he analyzed communication with the Jewish majority . Through such communication he dialectically confronts issues of personal , social and national identity . Chapter three expands on Dr . Mar’i ‘ s flagship project : The Research and Development Institute of Arab Education at the Haifa University . This chapter introduces the reader to the main areas of research he conducted with Arab and Jewish academics , together with a summary of its content . It also examines his work towards the establishment of an Arab university . The fourth chapter contains my analysis of Dr . Mar’i’s book Arab Education in Israel . Although published in 1987 , to this day it serves as a primary text on Arab society and education in Israel . The book concludes with some words by Dr . Khalid Abu-Asbah , sociologist and researcher of education . He summarizes the main challenges faced in the realm of Arab education from the time of Dr . Mari’s passing until today .
