The Language of Poli › cal Discourse in the Arabic Press in Israel under Military Rule Mustafa Kabha The Open University In this paper we shall discuss a an important period in the evolu › on of poli › cal speeches among the Arab minority in Israel , namely the period of Military Rule ( 1948-1966 ) , and the main pla › orm that existed for such discourse , the then-exis › ng Arabic newspapers , of various schools and inclina › ons . In the course of our treatment of this subject we must of necessity also say something about the special and complex situa › on of the Arabic press in Israel , the poli › cal framework within which this press operates . It is a minority press that represents a large na › onal minority in a country that de fi nes itself as a na › on-state that expresses the aspira › ons and the interests of the majority of the popula › on .
