death has been increasingly introduced and dealt with in publications for children , through stories and folk fairy tales . Using an analytic approach , we review some new stories in Arabic , written for the express purpose of helping children to cope with death . We then introduce a recent study in which fairytales were told to children , and death ceremonies were introduced and discussed with children by the storyteller . The main topics that are addressed in the paper : x The need to confront and acknowledge death in children’s literature , . rather than to ignore it x The diversity of methods dealing with the theme of death in Arabic . children’s stories x Modern reality stories : some deal directly and realistically with the theme through human characters , while others present symbolic humanized characters , like animals , plants , or personal possessions of the child . x Death in folk fairy tales : such tales tend to introduce death indirectly and holistically , as a normal event in the circle of life . The fairy tale tends to concentrate on the child’s future after having lost a meaningful close person . It presents examples of child protagonists who were able to overcome loss , thus telling children that they can and should live a happy and ful fi lling life .
