Rash › d al-Shart › n › was the only author we found who used terms consisting of a phrase in which the word for nunation was annexed to the names of the cases , as in tanw › n al-raf ‘ (“ nunation of the raf ‘ case” ) , tanw › n al-na › b (“ nunation of the na › b case” ) and tanw › n al- jarr (“ nunation of the jarr case” ) . 5 . In our opinion the terms in which the word for nunation is annexed to the names of the vowels are to be preferred to those in which it is annexed to the names of the cases , because the former make it possible to describe all the states of nunation in the language . An additional advantage is that it consists only of elements with which students are familiar already at the very beginning of their language studies , namely the names of the vowels , at a time when they still have no knowledge of the concepts of in fl exion and indeclinability ( bin ››) .
